Primitive Joe started as an idea behind a passion. We fell in love with cold brew coffee over a year ago and after trying virtually all of the cold brew coffee available at the time, we decided to start brewing our own. Several botched batches and countless hours in the kitchen later, we finally landed on something special. We began bottling our cold brew coffee up in mason jars and growlers so we could distribute it among friends and family...and the feedback was unreal!
At the time, we were less than thrilled with our 9-5 corporate jobs but Megan was pregnant with our first son, Bennett Edward Lee, so we held onto the security our jobs provided; the idea of starting our very own small business was something we talked about in hyperbole. That all changed on February, 4th 2018 when Bennett was born at only 24 weeks. He was severely premature and despite fighting his little heart out, he passed away on February, 5th 2018. That 24 hours we spent with him taught us so much about love and life. In the weeks and months following the loss of our baby boy we battled sadness, guilt, and anger. Ultimately though, we knew Bennett would want us to pick ourselves up, chase our dreams, and pursue a better tomorrow. So that's what we did. We took the negative emotions and thoughts and turned them into fuel, something useful. We focused on the blessings and positivity in our life rather than things that went wrong. The simple things such as family, friends, and time well-spent meant more than ever. And, so, Primitive Joe was born.
Initially Primitive Joe was just a way for us to keep our minds busy during this period but then it dawned on us, we can use this company to give back and possibly help others in their pursuit of a better tomorrow. That's why Primitive Joe is so much more than just cold brew coffee, it's a lifestyle. It's about enjoying the simple things in life, giving back, and striving towards a better tomorrow. Check out our Giving Back page to learn more about how Primitive Joe gives back and how you can too.
Life has a way of being so beautiful yet can be so hard and dark at times, regardless, you have to keep pushing forward, keep pursuing a better version of yourself, and never lose touch of the simple things in life. Cheers to a better tomorrow.
